What is the best thing that you like about your ride?
I've always desired the sophistication, the handling, cabin quality and design of European cars. I think the subtle sensibility combined with a bold look reflects my personality a great deal.
Do you like to take road trips in your car? Describe your favorite road trip -- where did you go? What did you do?
I've been on many road trips with it. I enjoy driving up to Toronto with it, especially. It's a nice 9 to 10 hour drive from suburban Chicago. With my CDs or Siruis radio cranking, a good road trip is like a form of meditation.
Do you like tinkering under the hood, or do you leave repairs and routine maintenance to your mechanic?
I don't do anything heavy-duty. Newer cars are very complicated and best left to the boys that know their shit. Besides, it gives me an excuse to check out the mechanics. ;-)
What special touches have you added to your car that reflect your personality and individuality?
I've had the car's computer (ECU) software upgraded (chipped). It boosted power by about 50bhp, putting out 225bhp.
What is the most you’ve ever paid for a car? What is the most you would ever pay for a car?
$27K is the most I've ever paid. I'm not sure I would like to spend stupid money on a car unless I had stupid money to spend. I think the more expensive it was, the more I would worry about it.
Do you find yourself more attracted to people with similar car tastes to your own? Or doesn’t it matter?
My partner also has a similar passion for cars and yes it does give us more in common and more to talk about. The most important thing is appreciation and passion, no matter what kind of car it is.
If you had an unlimited budget and could change anything you wanted on your car, what modifications or accessories would you add?
I'm happy with mine as it is.
Do you think your car has a personality or soul? What kind of sound or behavior does it have that makes it unmistakably your car?
I just really like the fact that I can look at my car and feel proud that I own it and the passion to drive it. A lot of people who get into "old school" cars think new cars don't have a soul. While a lot of cars on the market drive more like an appliance than a car, I don't think that's true with mine. Besides, a car's soul is just a reflection of it's owner's. If a car is just transportation to you, then its got no soul.
Do you have a nickname for your car?
No, but on rare occasion I've been teased. It's been called the "banana" and "little school bus" and "that squatty thing". All water off a duck's back for me. :-)
Have you upgraded the car stereo? What is your "dream" sound system?
No, my car is a limited, numbered edition. I am keeping it as close to stock as possible.
Have you ever pushed your car to its performance limit? What was the fastest speed?
I raced a Honda Prelude once and got it up to 110mph.
Are you a member of any car clubs or other auto related organizations?
I like to get together at various VW meets from time to time... check out the rides and the boys. :)
What was the first car you ever had? Do you ever get nostalgic for it?
A 1980 Pontiac Phoenix and hell no! LOL
If you could trade your ride in for any other car, what would it be, regardless of the price?
Perhaps a Volkswagen R32 or maybe a Audi. I do like the more down-to-earth youthfulness of Volkswagen. While, for example, I really appreciate the performance and handling of a BMW, I'm not sure I could get over the image. There's just too many wankers who buy them.
If you share a burning passion for your car like thousands of other gays, now you have a chance to let the world know. We don't just want to see your auto obsession, we want to hear all about it!
