Art Fair

The Ann Arbor Art fair is July 15-18th in downtown Ann Arbor. Arts and crafts of all types will abound from real life mannequins (near Maynard and William) to wildlife made out of nails (usually S. University near the law quad). It's fun to see crazy amounts of art and even more fun to people watch. If it get's to be too much for you check out a view from high up (the bell tower is open Noon-12:45am weekdays) the top of the Maynard street parking structure is also fun.

Metra Picnic 

On the opposite side of Detroit half way to Port Huron is Salt River Park. On July 12th this out of the way place hosts a variety of bar regulars and attendees and fans from all over Detroit. It's worth it for the drag show alone (only place you can see such a plethora of performers from all over the area in one location). Drag shows are at 3pm and 5pm. They have outdoor Olympics game competitions between the various bars earlier in the day (usually around 1pm) and there's DJ's playing music and dancing at the pavilion all day long. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. There's a food vendor but you need to bring your own alcohol. If you don't want to drive, a party leaves form Gigi's earlier in the morning (more information and tickets for that are available at the bar. wwww.gigisbar.com).

Fierce Hot Mess 

Fun for the just the name alone the this crazy dance party is held at Oslo 1456 Woodward in Downtown Detroit. The July party is Friday the 3rd (just before the 4th) and looks like it'll be all sorts of fun. Cover is $5 and 18+ are welcome. Go and get your Indie groove on.

Male Box 

The Male box is a fun bar located at 3537 E. Seven Mile Road in Detroit. Tuesday's are booty contest nights, and Friday's hot ass night. That said I'd really recommend folks check it out on Sat. the 4th of July for Lube Wrestling (Red, White and Blue style). Ask the bartender about their great drink specials.

Enjoy outdoor dining away from the car exhaust featured on main street. Tucked away in Braun court don't let the small size fool you, it's the gay mecca of Ann Arbor. Saving the world one cosmopolitan at a time they have great drinks and remarkable Mexican fare (along with some interesting specials). July highlights include 25% of wine bottles on Tuesday, a very nice Sunday morning brunch and a Red, White and Blue Party on the 4th of July. If you want something a little more tame than college student packed upstairs (Friday nights), they're also open for lunch weekdays.
