Gay.com Travel Awards -- Your Input Wanted!

 Calling all high-flying, train-riding, car-tripping, ship-sailing, vacation-loving gays! We're launching the 2009 Gay.com Travel Awards, and to help us decide on the nominees for each category, we're turning to the smartest, savviest travel experts we know -- namely, YOU.  After all, who says the "experts" know how to travel better than you do?

So look at the 11 categories and post your suggestions in the comments section below. Tell us about that little nightspot in San Diego that served the cheapest and best margaritas you'd ever tasted, or the cozy P-Town inn where you and your longtime partner rekindled your romance, or the hotel in South Beach so red-hot and over the top it just screamed sex.

Be specific -- make sure to tell us why you think this spot is the place to visit. (Were the town's boys hunky and the girls glam? Did the innkeepers make you feel especially welcome? Does the hotel chain take care of its LGBT employees?)

You have until the end of December to make your suggestions, and we'll announce the nominees on January 5, 2009. Send this link to as many friends as you can, because we want this year's Gay.com Travel Awards to truly reflect the many voices of the gay and lesbian traveler.

And always remember, contrary to popular belief, we seasoned LGBT travelers know that most of the time, the destination is just as important as the journey.

It's about time people actually started asking gay people where we like to go! These so-called "experts" only write about places I could never, ever afford. Nice to see that someone's asking for my opinion.

Ok so here is my 2 cents. I just recently flew Virgin America and it was the best flight I ever took. There is no need to even sit in first class -- the seats are huge. Not only that, but you don't have to wait for the drink/food cart. You simply order everything from your seat and boom -- the flight attendant brings it.

My favorite hotel is unpopular, probably, but it's also romantic. It's called the Hotel 17 and it's in Grammercy Park in NY. I never stay anyplace else.

My favorite place to get it on is anywhere, anytime, but if I had to choose, you really can't beat San Francisco. It's got the gay vibe everywhere you go and it's just plain hot.

Get what on? I don’t get it? I have to travel a lot and I always stick to American because of their frequent flyer program. I vacation in Puerto Vallerta because it’s cheap cheap cheap and I love Saugatuck Michigan for a gay resort town. I like Starwood because of their rewards program. I don’t know about the rest. 

Favorite Airline: American -- Hands down! International flights in business class are an experience that rivals reaching the destination itself.

Favorite International Destination: Acapulco, Guererro, Mexico. Lots of fun things to do. Nice beaches. Friendly people. Fun gay bars/clubs. Hot guys! Oh yeah, did I mention the hot guys?!

Favorite Hotel: Wyndham. Very gay friendly in my experience.

Favorite Casino: Circus Circus is a great value and a good location in Las Vegas, but not really a gay mecca.

Mexico is my destination of choice and has been for the last three years. I have been all over Mexico from the states in the north to the jungles of the south. The people are wonderful and very much down to earth. The food gets better as you head south. There are city's that are very American (MTY) or very traditional (GLD). There is history to be seen, and hot beaches and boys to practice more than your language skills with. When i hook up with a Mexican Man my vacation goes from bla to woohoo. Last time i was there a fellow i was seeing said, that they never knew that Mexico was such a gay destination. Mexico for me baby. USA, I just fly over it!

Best Hotel hands down is W Hotel. A little on the pricey side but worth every penny. Their whatever?whenever service is gods gift to gay men.

Favorite Domestic Destination would be Montreal. You get the culture and architecture of Europe without paying the price.

Favorite International Destination would have to be Australia. The accent, the nightlife, the gorgeous men.

Finally, I get a voice...

Ok -- I have been a traveler for a long, long time. Travel is my passion.

I feel I have a qualified opinion here, so here are my answers:

Airline: United. They fly everywhere I need to go, and I am a frequent flyer. For western travel, I always go Southwest -- friendly service, gay friendly, etc.

Domestic City: San Francisco. Done Deal.

Casino: Call me crazy, but it's not Vegas. Borgata, Atlantic City.

Romantic: Crazy again (and I am a west coast guy), but Atlantic City and I'll tell you why. I do a lot of biz travel to NY and always hit AC. There's also Cape May NJ which is gorgeous in summer, and from what I hear, Asbury Park (home of Springsteen) has gone from blue collar to totally gay.

That's all I feel qualified to answer except I'm going to take a shot at "Best Bargain." I would say the view of the pretty young boys walking past the ancient Twin Peaks bar in the Castro on a Sunday morning is the best gay bargain there is. And it's free.

Just recently flew Virgin and was blown away. All airlines should be that dependable, glam and HOT. Jet Blue gets my nod too.

Always use Budget -- I know its not sexy per se, but it gets me there cheap.

Best hotel I have ever stayed at: There are many: Hotel Monaco in SF, Bryant Park in NY, Borgata Atlantic City, Clift SF "W" anywhere.

Best place to get it on: Anyplace that has a continous loop of music by Madonna, Tom Waits, or Prince.

Casino: Palms, LV

Best place to get it on is the Hotel 17 in New York. It's cheap, but it's glam, sexy and has history. Hot.

Romantic getaway for me anyway (or place I've had the most luck) is definitely San Francisco. I've never not gotten lucky in that town. Favorite hotel used to be the Clift on Geary, but now it's the Adante.

International: You can't beat Rome, but London is a close second.

Best bargain? I'd have to go with me! I'm funny, easy going and you don't have put exert too much energy to please me.

Always fly Delta, always will. Best FF program. I fly Delta with my partner all the time since 1999, and no one bats an eye when we cuddle.

Hotel -- any "W" any city.

Car rental -- may seem un-glam but we're going with Avis. Best customer service anywhere, and they will definitely give you a better rate if you just try to get one.

Best bargain: $3.00 Bloody Mary's and the best view of the SF Bay at the Ramp in San Francisco on any given Sunday morning.

Best place to get it on:

1 -- In our bedroom on any given night listening to Interpol, Pixies, Kylie, Madonna or all.

2 - VEGAS

I only travel for business, which, after seeing these categories, makes me realize I am missing out a lot on life, apparently...

But I am loyal to Southwest Airlines. They are my carrier for biz trips and in the 12 years I've flown them, I've not once been experienced a flight delay or been treated with anything less than extreme courtesy. That carries a lot of weight with me and my co-workers.

We usually stay at the same chain -- Sheraton. Pleased with them too.

Can't answer the other questions, except for casino. My brother's wedding was at the Borgata in New Jersey ( I saw that mentioned above and wasn't surprised) and it was one of the funnest night's of my boyfriend and mine's life. It rocked.

best bargain? My boyfriend.

To RichardMD who recently flew Virgina America - there's another side to their 'good customer service' story: I was lulled into thinking this wa a travel epiphany afterm y first flight. But after over a year of flying VA and gaining Elevate points (AND waiting FOREVER to be able to use them) - I found out today that the points are not transferrable.

What a joke.

I wanted to fly my sister and 5 year old niece from Vegas to see my parents over the Christmas holiday. I just found out I can't because VA doesn't transfer the miles I've paid for. I'm completely appalled at the company.

I stopped flying JetBlue to support your VA. I’m a founding Elevate member. How stupid of me. At least JetBlue honored my points and allowed me to purchase a (points) ticket for anyone I selected.

Its a year too late but I'm taking my travel business elsewhere. I can't even blame myslef for not reading the fine print - as it took this airline YEAR to actually post their Elevate points rules.

Buyers beware with this airline.

Well I want in on this.

Favourite Airline: British Airways, by far the best service I've ever received, I may be 16, but I'm not dumb. American f**ked me and my Auntie over so bad, I won't ever think about flying with them again.

Favourite Place to 'Get It On': Well so far in my life, it's definitely been in a park. My ideal place, however, would be in a modern flat in London, overlooking the Thames, on a white micro fibre couch, please. Preferably on the 6th floor or so.

Favourite International Destination: London is amazing, but Paris was awesome too. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose London because of the people and the weather, it was perfect. However, my Hotel in Paris, and the area I stayed in, was heavenly. Many gay couples, open-minded people, unconventional lifestyles, it was perfect too.

Favourite Romantic Getaway: For me could be any place, all I need is the man of my dreams, or the one I'm currently dating would work too, and a nice restaurant. An Independent restaurant, they're friendlier, with hours to stare into each others eyes, talk about life, love, and the meaning of our existence, or whatever else. Excellent wine list, with a good strong Merlot.

Favourite Domestic Destination: I presume this means 'in the US'? Well fine, I must choose from the places I've been. Deadwood, South Dakota was actually quite fun. Despite the abundance of Casinos which I couldn't enter. It's a beautifully old town, with a huge amount of class, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Favourite Resort Town: I've never actually been to a Resort Town, I prefer to avoid them, I refuse. I hate the idea of it.

That's all I can give, I'm well travelled, but my experiences were somewhat limited, especially in the US. I adore Europe, for its liberality and laid back sense of life, I was free to do anything I wished there. The hotel I stayed in London, was exquisite. The rooms were quaint, and the lobby was excruciatingly modern, with lifts that told me to 'Mind the Door'.

Oh yes, I love travel, and I don't intend to stop anytime soon.

Continental is my fav airline - easy routes & usally on time. Late night trip to Heathrow can't be beat.
Great place to get away in the US,, Saugatuck, Michigan - (Douglas Dunes Resort) crosscountry skiing in winter, beach in summer, inexpensive, midwest alturnative to Fire Island. Also, San Antonio, Christmas at the Starwood or La Mansion on the riverwalk, es muy romantico, think clean Mexico City without the physical threats to ur body. Boudrou's on the riverwalk - order the Texas Tea (Long Island Ice Tea w/ a Texas twist) & Blue Corn Empanada - worry about ur colestrol later - also - Zaa Zaa 's gay friendly sausa dancing - ask at the hotel for directions, its away from the tourist spots - lots of locals. Austin TX also is a great getaway for those who like outdoor stuff to do,, cross country running, mt biking, etc,,,

Favorite Romantic Getaway: Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Just the best place to spend the day and enjoy nature and the company of a loved one.

Favorite Domestic Destination: LAS VEGAS, NV!!! Best area for outdoor recreation and to enjoy the nightlife! Its my second home!

Black Fox Manor on Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada is the most romantic gay friendly B&B, the most beautiful house on the island, the best place to get away in the North East.
