Hot Kevin's Tulsa!
My name: Kevin
My age: 35
My profession: Bartender
City/town: Tulsa
Relationship status: Single (thank God!)
Sexuality: Gay (thank God!)
What are your favorite gay bars and/or dance clubs?
Tulsa, like every city in the U.S., used to have a plethora of great ones. Now we're down to just Club Maverick and Renegade's (and no, my screen-name doesn't come from that club).
Are any famous people from your town?
Ted Shackelford from "Knots Landing"; super model Amber Valetta and of course, Hanson ("Mmmbop").
If someone came to your town for just four hours, what is the one thing he should do?
That's a "loaded" question.
What are some great restaurants for a night out with gay friends?
Abeulo's is one.
What are some great restaurants for a romantic gay date? What about these restaurants appeals to you?
I don't know. Anyplace that can conjure up a great, healthy Cesar salad, is good in my book.
What was the last vacation you took? Where did you go? Where do you most want to go?
Kansas City, Missouri and Dallas, Texas are both simple four hour drives from Tulsa so I hit those fun towns all the time. A ridiculously fun road trip would be to San Diego, California. I wanna KNOW that town (smile).
What are your favorite gay parties or events in your town, if any?
What is the crowd or scene like at those places? I'm 35 so I'm too old to get invited to raves. Then again, I'm dating myself by mentioning those. Do raves still exist? Tulsa threw down some hot ones in the mid-1990's, though.
Where is the best public place for a gay person to make out there (or isn't there one)?
Oral Roberts University campus.
What is the gay community like there? Do you consider yourself to be part of any particular "scene?"
Tulsa, in the heart of the bible belt, is extremely conservative but considering how oppressed it is, there are actually about six or seven gay & lesbian clubs in this one horse town.
Where do you shop for clothes?
Online.
Where do you go for other forms of entertainment -- live theater, concerts, movies, art exhibits? Are there any local gay performance groups, bands, or artists that you're a fan of?
Oklahoma City -- just 90 minutes to our west, offers up some great live entertainment (The Ford Center).
If you had gay friends visiting from out of town for the first time, what are some "must-dos" you'd recommend?
The Philbrook and Gilcrease Museums, Riverparks, etc.
Is there a local cocktail that's popular in your town?
Probably Long Island Ice Teas (yawwwn) but I'd like everybody to fall in love with my Pineapple bombs (e-mail me for recipe, hehe!).
Where do the hot boys in your town tend to hang out?
If I told you, I'd have to kill you.
If you had to describe the "average gay boy" style of your town in two words, what would they be?
Twink.
Do you have any local celebs?
"Young & Restless" super hunk Joshua Morrow. He's played Nick on the CBS soap for almost 15 years and I used to work for his uncle. Awesome guy!
What bar has the cutest/hottest bartenders? (Don't name people's names)
Club Maverick's.
Do gay men and lesbians hang out together in your town or is that just unheard of?
Not unheard of. I think Logo's helped mend those fences.
Do you have a hometown crush?
Awww, yes, everyday (smile).

How retarded? Why would you sign up to give a guide and then not answer several questions... I don't know, etc, one word answers...
How useless are you?

If the guys in Tulsa are half as cute as you, guess where my next vacation is going to be?
I think this is a great article on Tulsa. It doesn't bore me like most travel stuff does. Nice job Kevin! And I'd love your recipe for pineapple bombs!

Finally, gay travel that isn't as limp and flaccid as an 80 year old's penis! Did you guys finally ditch Out Traveler? Talk about boring articles.
I don't think I'll be going to Tulsa anytime soon but this was way more fun reading than a tour of Europe I couldn't afford in 20 years.

If Kevin's a bartender in Tulsa, then Tulsa may be my next vacation. He's hot, but this was cool. Whoever his hometown crush is one lucky man!

if you paperbagged his head i might consider it

Just remember: Tulsa backwards is a slut. And I'm sure there are a lot of backward people in that town.

This was really printed? I'm a little upset that this is how Tulsa was portrayed. Tulsa has a very rich history, wonderful people, and tons of places where gay men and women feel welcome. What did he mention? Bars and "loaded" areas to cruise? We have more than two gay bars to suite one's tastes; we also have a wonderful Equality center that offers tons information about our community here. ORU? Let's not be bitter about the christian community. Pick a local Tulsa restaurant for dining-- not one that has places around the nation. Come on! This is our chance to shine, and this hasn't helped at all!

This article was such crap. How was this interesting at all? He didn't answer several questions. Just because he sprinkled sexual innuendos into his answers? Puh-leas...

Good answers Kevin. You answered the questions GIVEN honestly.
And for the many place I have been in the US most of the OKlaHomies I have met are as HOT (if not hotter) with that simplistic OK Charm.
I will show you San Diego when you get here.
You will blend in nicely, but you will not stand out.

Why is everyone so serious here? Yes, he may not have talked about all the historic gay locations in Tulsa, or what the best restaurants are, and talked about a number of bars, but isn't the point of this to talk about "YOUR" city? What YOU like about your city!
If he didn't mention what YOU like in Tulsa then write your own damn version of it instead of complaining!

Interesting responses. Not much substance and of little interest. No wonder the twinks dominate.

OMG SERIOUSLY! How can gay.com get one of the worst critics of Tulsa or of anything, to give an insight of Oklahoma? I have met this guy in the past. He is no where near what Tulsa is about. We have about a dozen or more gay/lesbian bars/clubs in Tulsa. Club Majestic is the biggest here and he no where near named that one. Far as resturants. There are loads of nice ones here. Loads of nice places to go for a walk or hangout. A smoke free bar named Club 209 is a great hangout. Far as famous people. If he know anything besides all the Soap Opera people he would know there are lots of other famous people from and live here in and around Tulsa. He mentions "RAVES" are you kidding. Come one tell everybody how old you really are and update those late 90's pics! Far as LOGO hasn't helped anything with Tulsa. Most people here have COX Cable which dont have LOGO. Gay people have been very out here over the last 10 years. And i am sure there is more than one Horse here. HELLO! Its Oklahoma! Jeez. I have gone on enought about this. Please Gay.com Check your people out who you interview next time.

Tulsa. Guys, this is not a place to visit. Seriously. A highly repressed town. Most of the bars are actually pretty sad. As someone mentioned, Majestic is good, but it is also a kiddy bar (18-21 crowd). Just about every other bar is a troll magnet.
If you're coming to Tulsa to find a good looking guy, you'll be disappointed. But we thank you for raising the average appearance of the gay men in our state while you visit.

Tulsa is surprisingly one of the more accepting cities of gay & lesbians throughout the Midwest and also features a very progressive arts scene.
